Mattern & Craig, an employee-owned Engineering and Survey Firm, is looking for a motivated individual for a leadership position in our transportation division. The focus of the position is managing NCDOT and municipal roadway and related projects. This is a Project ManagerTransportation Engineering position in the Asheville and Western North Carolina market. Applicants must be proficient with NCDOT methodology and have working knowledge of design plan preparation using GEOPAK and MicroStation. Experience with NCDOT projects is highly desired but equivalent experience in other DOT work will be considered.

Beyond project management, this role includes some business development and team management. SURVEY CREW CHIEF

Mattern & Craig is seeking land surveying personnel.  This is a Survey Crew Chief position in the Asheville, NC office.  Primary duties will include coordinating crews through completion of projects and field-to-finish CADD work.  Position requires outdoor work under all conditions.  Some travel is required.  Experience and/or technical education strongly preferred.

PROJECT MANAGER - CIVIL ENGINEERING

Mattern & Craig, an employee-owned Engineering and Survey Firm, is looking for a motivated individual for a leadership position in our civil engineering division.  The focus of the position is managing civil, utility, stormwater, land development and related projects. This is a Project Manager – Civil Engineering position in the rapidly growing Charleston, SC/Lowcountry market.

Applicants must be proficient with civil engineering practices and methodology and have working knowledge of design plan preparation and review using industry standard software. Familiarity with drainage and stormwater practices for coastal South Carolina is highly desired. Experience with local government, utility, and land development projects is highly desired but equivalent experience in other related fields will be considered. Familiarity with asset management and data analytics technology for utilities and local governments is desirable.

Beyond project management, this role includes team leadership and business development in order to grow the office. CADD TECHNICIAN - CIVIL ENGINEERING

Responsibilities:

  • Use computer assisted surveying software (i.e. AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Microstation, etc.) to prepare surveys for use in engineering and design drawings and documents.
  • Assists with transmitting survey data to the proper files in the computer network and be able to acquire the data for field use.
  • Analyzes sketches, notes and other input material to determine and plan the best approach to develop and complete the drawings with minimal supervision.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Strong computer and technical aptitude;
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD required; knowledge of Civil 3D and MicroStation is a plus;

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Keep clear and accurate field notes by recording all significant data;
  • Record on a daily basis in the field book a record of the amount of progress made that day;
  • Ensure that data collectors are downloaded on a daily basis (if needed), and review a print of each day’s field file;
  • Use proper safety equipment and follows proper safety field procedures.  The Party Chief is responsible for the safety of the crew, vehicles, and equipment, and the public’s interest;
  • Resolve their own project-related problems and consult with the Survey Manager or Survey Supervisor when there are scheduling issues;
  • Portray a professional appearance by wearing the appropriate clothing in the particular work environment.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining project budgets and schedules, specific to surveying projects and phases.  Assist in maintaining the technical and financial performance of the survey team’s budgets;
  • Follow and comply with, when applicable, state and firm field procedures, using them to ensure that the field data is in the proper format, taking into account the fact that each job will have its own peculiarities;
  • Ensure proper maintenance of assigned vehicle;
  • Thoroughly understand the scope of the project.  If this is not made clear by the Project Manager, the Survey Manager, or the Survey Supervisor, ask questions in order to properly execute the survey;
  • Always communicate with the Survey Supervisor, or other office personnel working with them, at the beginning or end of each day;
  • Review final survey products prior to delivery to design team;
  • Perform all other assigned related duties;
  • Some overnight travel may be required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Surveying from an accredited four-year college or university or an Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and 4 years related experience preferred. Minimum 3 years of surveying experience in appropriate field relevant surveying;
  • The Education and/or Experience requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required;
  • Valid driver’s license relevant to the State of the office assigned;
  • Able to perform physical labor (i.e. strenuous walking, lifting CB grates/MH covers, hauling equipment, etc.);
