MATTERN & CRAIG TO DEVELOP MASTER RECREATION PLAN FOR DUPONT FOREST, NORTH CAROLINA

Earlier this month, we were selected for an exciting project in North Carolina: the development of the DuPont Forest Master Recreation Plan. DuPont State Recreational Forest, located in Cedar Mountain, North Carolina, is a 12,500-acre forest which spans the counties of Henderson and Transylvania. Thousands of people travel to the park each year, but the original design is no longer suited for current use and the high volume of visitors. The Master Recreation Plan will improve current trail systems and infrastructure in the Forest to ensure long-term safety and use to visitors.

M&C will perform research and direct observation into best improvements for infrastructure and trails in the park. M&C will team with IBI Consulting, Terra Incognito Trail Consultants, and C2 Recreation Consultants to perform the needed work.

In their article about the project earlier this month, Friends of DuPont Forest posted, “The recreation plan will make recommendations for recreational infrastructure improvements and trail system management. These recommendations will balance the current and future needs of the Forest’s diverse visitors while also protecting forest resources and natural communities.” Read their full press release here: Consultant Selected to Develop Master Recreation Plan for DuPont Forest — DuPont State Recreational Forest
