M&C PREPARES LARGE SITE IN HAWKINS COUNTY, TN FOR DEVELOPMENT

We’ve been up to something BIG this year: the design for Lot 17 of the Phipps Bend Industrial Park in Hawkins County, TN. At close to 100 acres, this site is one of the largest in Northeast Tennessee, and Mattern & Craig was selected to prepare the vacant site for industrial development. The goal of this site is to provide the Northeast Tennessee area a new space for industry, with potentially hundreds of new jobs and exponential economic growth.

Calvin Clifton, Business Manager at M&C, shared his thoughts on the process in an article posted by News Channel 11 this past Tuesday:

“Our firm is doing the design for lot 17, which will include some grade work, relocating the sanitary sewer line and extending the water utilities into the site, and also doing some grade work to fill in the existing ditch that TVA constructed many years ago for the proposed nuclear power plant that was later scrapped.”

M&C developed a 3-step site leveling process approved by Phipps Bend Joint Venture and Hawkins County Industrial Development Board and, to provide rail service to the site, we are working with Norfolk Southern.

Given the size of the lot and the amount of work to be done, M&C expects this project could be underway and market-ready within 12-18 months.
